About our club

DWS Exeter, or The Westcountry Martial Arts Institute was founded in 2014 by Shaun and Jamie Acutt. Our club was the first Devonshire Wrestling Society club to preserve the martial heritage of the Westcountry.

Our philosophy

DWS Exeter, or The Westcountry Martial Arts Institute has been preserving and teaching authentic Devon Wrestling techniques for over a decade. Founded in 2014 by Shaun and Jamie Acutt, our club stands as the first Devonshire Wrestling Society club to preserve the martial heritage of the Westcountry.

We are dedicated to maintaining the traditional collar-and-elbow wrestling methods that have been passed down through generations of Devon wrestlers. Our training emphasises not only physical technique but also the historical and cultural significance of these ancient fighting arts.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist, our welcoming community and structured curriculum will help you develop your skills whilst connecting with centuries of Westcountry tradition.
