Western Times, Devon wrestlers return from Leeds and London (1828)

Wrestling. The Devon Wrestlers came back on Monday from the grand Matches at London and Leeds. They have been every where successful and floored every opponent. Cann, though greatly weakened from the effects of the attack of Gout, could not look tamely on, and risked his well-earned Laurels, while in that state at the London Match, but appeared superior alike to Gout and to his opponents, and as is his wont, became a standard and bore off the first prize.

London, April 23: John Jordan to wrestle Abraham Cann the first three fair backfalls out of five, for One Hundred Sovereigns aside. A deposit of 10l. is now made on the part of Jordan, and the like sum deposited on the part of Abraham Cann, in the hands of Thomas Harding, to abide the event. The match to be played at the Eagle Tavern in the City Road, London.
