  • CCWA Cornish Wrestling Cornwall vs Devon

WRESTLING. CORNISH SPORT RE-ESTABLISHED. CENTENARY TOURNEY. What a very marked contrast there is in the attendances at the wrestling tournaments which have been held this year, and, above all, what great advancement in the standard of play and the evenness of the bouts, all this having been brought about undoubtedly by the influence of the Cornwall County Wrestling Association.

Previous to the formation of the Association, wrestling was dying out; now it has become a very live organization. The CENTENARY TOURNAMENT: The centenary of the celebrated Polkinghorne and Cann match, which was held at Devonport in 1826, will occupy the attention of the General Committee when they meet at Wadebridge on June 27. Various opinions as to where this should be held are causing quite a controversy, some suggesting Home Park, Plymouth, and some a central position in the county.

REVIVAL AT BUDE. The County Association have arranged further dates, and it is gratifying to find that after an absence of nearly 20 years Bude has decided to have a tournament on Saturday, August 22. The date for the heavy-weight championship has been decided. It will be held at Probus on September 12.
