Western Flying Post, Advertisement (1783)
Advertisements from the Western Flying Post; or, Sherborne & Yeovil Mercury and General Advertiser, 2 June 1783.
CORNWALL
THIS is to give notice, that at the house of Mr. William Fry, the Rose and Crown, in Millbrook, near Plymouth, on the ninth day of June next, being Whitsun Monday, will be WRESTLED for, A Gold Laced Waistcoat. Each man to throw two men a fair fall on the back, and to be eight standers, and not to play after nine o’clock at night.
Tuesday the 10th a Silver Cup to be WRESTLED for, on the same conditions; and the winner of each prize to spend five shillings each, at the same house.
The man that wins the prize the first day is not to play the second day.
On Wednesday the 11th there will be a Silver Laced Hat to be CUDGELLED for, and to be eight standers. Each man that breaks two fair heads to be a stander. The man that wins the prize to spend two shillings and sixpence.
And there will be A Silver Horse to be RUN for by Jack-Asses, free.
