Exeter Flying Post, Totnes and Newton Abbot Grand Wrestling advertisements (1827)

A GRAND WRESTLING MATCH WILL take place at TOTNES, on MONDAY and TUESDAY, the 16th and 17th of JULY next. Every encouragement will be given to Players, and further particulars will appear in this Paper of the ensuing week.

THE NEWTON-ABBOT GRAND WRESTLING MATCH For 50 SOVEREIGNS. TO be WRESTLED FOR, in a Field adjoining the Town of NEWTON-ABBOT, on MONDAY and TUESDAY, the 16th and 17th of JULY next, a PRIZE of FIFTY SOVEREIGNS:—To be divided as follows, viz:— £10. for the Best Man; £6. for the Second ditto; £3. for the Third ditto; £1. 5s. for the Fourth ditto. Each Standard to receive Five Shillings.—Every Standard throwing his man in the double play to receive an extra Five Shillings;—Ditto, in the treble play, another additional Five Shillings;—and the remainder given to deserving Players.

Able and impartial Tryers will be chosen, and every encouragement given to the Players.—The Play to begin precisely by 11 o’Clock in the Forenoon of each day. An ORDINARY on the GROUND.
