  • Cornwall vs Devon Devon Wrestling Jordan Severe play

WRESTLING.—The Paignton match commenced on Thursday last. The single play on the first day passed off rather laggingly, serving, however, to shew the strength of the muster, and enlightening the spectators by the promise it gave of capital work for the next day. At 2 o’clock, on Friday, the double play commenced, it was South against North Devon, and this day was the amor patria or the esprit de corps more fully displayed; it was all fair and honest rivalry for their respective divisions of the county, and every turn was strongly contested. The scene was closed at 9 o’clock, and owing to the positive direction of the Committee, ere the Sabbath commenced, not a vestige was to be discovered on the Green to mark the spot which had been for three successive days the scene of such pleasure and delight. Jordan the first prize of 6 sovereigns, Frost the second of 4 sovereigns. The third prize of 3 sovereigns to Lewis Braceombe, and the fourth of 1 sovereign to Bollamore.
