Exeter Flying Post, Crediton Annual Wrestling: twenty guineas (1809)
TO WRESTLERS. TO be WRESTLED for, on Wednesday and Thursday, the 24th and 25th days of May instant, in a Field adjoining the town of Crediton, Devon, the annual Prize of TWENTY GUINEAS, Ten Guineas of which, as usual, will be given to the best man, and the remainder distributed among the other players getting shares, and such other players as distinguish themselves, in such proportions as the committee for managing the same, may direct. As the subscribers are desirous that all the shares may be gotten on the first day, they have determined the play to begin precisely at eight o’clock in the morning; and in order to ensure an early attendance of players, they have also determined that the man getting the first share shall be entitled to Half a Guinea extraordinary. It is intended, at present, that the Double Play shall commence on the second day, precisely at the same time. Crediton, May 9th, 1809.
