  • Abraham Cann Cann-vs-Polkinghorne Challenge letter Cornwall vs Devon Polkinghorne

WRESTLING.—Cann and Polkinhorn.—The disappointment so generally felt at the withdrawing of Mr. Polkinhorn from the wrestling at Devonport, thereby leaving the match, so long talked of and so long looked for, undecided, might naturally have been expected to give rise to some discussion. “To the Gentlemen who composed Mr. Polkinhorn’s Committee at the late Wrestling Match at Devonport. Gentlemen, A great deal of boasting and misrepresentation having taken place by Mr. Polkinhorn’s friends, in consequence of Abraham Cann’s backers having consented to a withdrawing of the stakes, which had most undoubtedly been forfeited by Mr. Polkinhorn’s breach of the conditions, in declining the contest before the Triers were unanimous; Abraham Cann’s Committee feel called upon, on his behalf, to say, that he will meet Mr. Polkinhorn again at the same place, either next week, next month, or next spring, to play for the same stake, and on the same conditions. Signed on behalf of Abraham Cann’s Committee, Exeter, 4th Nov. 1826. WM. SNELL.”
