BOXING AND WRESTLING. SPORTS CLUB FOR HONITON. A public meeting was held at the Dolphin Hotel, Honiton, in connexion with the formation of an Amateur Athletic Club. The Mayor (Alderman H Banfield) presided. It was suggested that the Club should be formed, and they thought best to start in a small way, and confine themselves to boxing and wrestling. They might be able to arrange cross-country runs, jumping contests, and other athletic activities.

Mr. Shortridge said several rooms had been offered, the most suitable being one in King-street, belonging to Mr. Mutter, formerly used as a warehouse. They had fixed Tuesdays and Fridays as Club nights. The subscription for members over 16 should be 2s. for each half year, and for members between 14 and 16, an additional charge each evening they used the Club apparatus. The Mayor gave a donation of one guinea, and wished the Club every success, hoping it would prove a great benefit to the younger men of the town.
