To the Editor of the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette.

Sir,—I understand that it is intended to renew this manly sport in St. Thomas, and that the Grecians have also resolved upon having a bout. Surely it would be much better for the Manager to meet, join interests and purses, draw lots for choice of ground, and change next year. By this means a very handsome sum would be subscribed, at least One Hundred Sovereigns, and the Committee would be enabled to invite Gaffney, and other Irishmen as well as the sturdy Cornubians, to compete for a prize worth their notice. Strangers would be certain of fair play upon Devonshire ground; indeed if a doubt should arise in the minds of the triers, I venture to assert the benefit of that doubt would be given to the strangers.
