Exeter Flying Post, Dartmouth Grand Wrestling Match advertisement (1827)

DARTMOUTH GRAND WRESTLING MATCH.

THE DARTMOUTH GRAND WRESTLING MATCH, for THIRTY SOVEREIGNS, will take place on the New Ground, (a Ring of 80 foot diameter turfed for the occasion) on WEDNESDAY, 25th day of JULY next, the play to commence precisely at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. This hour will admit of the company being gratified with a sight of the Grand SAILING BOAT MATCHES, between the Yachts and Boats, at the intended REGATTA, which are ordered to be ready for starting at an early hour in the forenoon of that day.

No Trier to be taken from the Town, but chosen indifferently from the neighboring parishes; every encouragement will be given to the players.

A Band will attend on the occasion.
