  • Cornwall vs Devon Devon Wrestling Exeter Severe play

THE EXETER WRESTLING MATCH. On Friday the play was continued—Bond threw Bolt, Pengelley threw Chappie, Walters, and Bray. The sport throughout was excellent, and excited the admiration and applause of hundreds of enthusiastic spectators.

Monday.—Chappie (D) threw Bond (D); Thresize (C) gave Holt (D) a fore-hipper. Then came the grand match, Bray vs Miller—Miller with the quickness of greased lightning flipped round, and with his toe tripped him clean up.

Chappie and Miller, both from the same parish of Romansleigh (being adjoining farmers), came forward arm in arm, and appealed to the feelings of the spectators whether they, as Devonshire men, should be forced to contend. Cries of No resounding from all parts, they returned thanks; and offered to wrestle any two men in England for any sum.

Prizes: First Prize, Chappie (D); Second Prize, £6, Miller (D); Third Prize, £4, Bond (D); Fourth Prize, £3, Bray (C); Fifth Prize, £1, Thresize (C); Sixth Prize, £1, Walters (C).
