Exeter Flying Post, Topsham Grand Wrestling advertisement (1825)
GRAND WRESTLING FOR TWENTY-FIVE SOVEREIGNS. TO be WRESTLED FOR, in the BOWLING-GREEN of the SALUTATION INN, TOPSHAM, (Fair Back Falls,) on Monday the 20th of June, the Capital Prize of Fifteen Sovereigns, Seven of which will be given to the Best Man, And on the Following Day, A Purse of Ten Sovereigns, Five of which will be given to the Best Man. The remainder on each Day will be distributed among the Players who distinguish themselves, in such proportions as the Triers with a Committee of Subscribers may direct. As the Subscribers at present intend that the Double Play shall commence precisely by Two o’Clock, they have determined the Single Play to begin on each Day precisely by Eight o’Clock in the Morning,—and to ensure an early attendance of Players, they have resolved, that the Man who first comes for Share shall have Half a Sovereign extra-ordinary, provided he obtains the same before Eleven o’Clock. N.B. Players coming from a distance will be considered by the Subscribers. Topsham, May 22d, 1825.
