Two matches, one at billiards, the other at wrestling, took place at Brighton, Thursday. These matches were made in London, about three weeks back, at a celebrated sporting house, between Mr. Hayne, of Tavistock-street, and Mr. Carney, a gentleman from the Sister Kingdom, well known among the members of the turf and the ring. Mr. Carney afterwards backed himself to wrestle Cannon, the best of three back falls, collar and elbow hold, for 50l.; which match Mr. Hay also made; and it was agreed that it should be decided on the same day after the billiard match. Carney then proceeded to Ireland Gardens, and after some preliminaries, the mighty struggle commenced, and Carney, after giving two equivocal falls threw Cannon a fair back fall, who confessed himself conquered. Cannon, before he set to, confessed he knew nothing of wrestling.
