Western Flying Post, Wrestling and Cudgelling (1784)

Games at Maker Green, near Kingsand and Cawsand

WRESTLING, CUDGELLING, &c.

On Wednesday the 23d of June, and the two following days, will be held at the said place, GAMES for the purposes aforesaid, free for all gamesters who chuse to attend, and good encouragement will be given to the adventurers.

The first day, the 23d of June, to be Cudgelled for, a handsome Silver Cup, three guineas value, for the first best man; a Gold Lace Hat, one guinea value, for the second; and Half-a-Guinea for the third.

The second day, the 24th of June, to be Wrestled for, a large elegant Silver Bowl, six guineas value, for the full best man; Two Guineas for the second; and One Guinea for the third. The first stander for each game to have Five Shillings, and the others Two Shillings and Sixpence each.

The third day, the 25th of June, if time will permit, a Gold Lace Hat, two guineas value, will also be wrestled for.

N.B. Each day there will be Running for Pigs, Racing by Asses, Running for Smocks, and Jumping in Bags, with several other kinds of diversions. — Every civility and kind attention will be paid to the spectators.

The games to begin each day at ten o’clock in the forenoon.
